Basic Introduction to Hydraulic Brake Hose

Brake hose (commonly known as brake pipe) is a key flexible component in the automotive braking system that transmits braking media (such as hydraulic oil, compressed air, or vacuum). Its core function is to transmit braking force to the brake shoes or calipers, ensuring timely and effective braking action. Its importance is self-evident: it is directly related to braking performance and driving safety. If aging, cracking or blockage occurs, it may lead to brake lag, failure or even accidents.

1、 Typical structure of brake hose:
Inner layer: corrosion-resistant rubber or nylon material, in contact with brake media;
Enhancement layer: Chemical fiber weaving layer or steel wire layer, enhancing compressive and tensile strength;
Outer layer: protective layer (such as EPDM), anti-aging and abrasion resistant.
Additional design: Some hoses include sheaths, insulation layers, etc. to enhance scratch resistance or low temperature resistance.

2、 Material classification
Rubber brake hose: excellent tensile performance, easy to install, but long-term use is prone to surface aging.
Nylon brake hose: anti-aging and corrosion resistant, but its tensile strength is weak under low temperature environment, and it is easy to break under external impact.

3、 Type and Applicable Scenarios
According to the braking form:
Hydraulic brake hose: transmitting hydraulic oil, widely used in passenger cars;
Pneumatic brake hose: used for commercial vehicles and heavy machinery;
Vacuum brake hose: The assist system transmits vacuum pressure.
According to adaptability:
Specialized type: Suitable for specific vehicle models (requires matching frame numbers);
Universal type: suitable for multiple types of vehicle models.

4、 Performance standards and testing
National standard: Following GB16897-2022, it covers key indicators such as internal hole throughput after necking, burst strength, and airtightness.
Testing items:
Hydraulic brake hose: maximum expansion capacity, brake fluid compatibility;
Pneumatic brake hose: winding fatigue, length change rate;
Vacuum brake hose: change in outer diameter after negative pressure resistance.

5、 Maintenance and selection suggestions
Daily maintenance:
Regularly inspect the surface of the hose for cracks, corrosion, or bubbles;
Avoid external pulling and maintain the tightness and sealing of the joint;
Replace aging or damaged parts promptly after long-term use.
Key points for purchasing:
Identify CQC certification and legitimate manufacturer information;
Match specialized hose assemblies according to vehicle models to avoid the risk of universal component adaptation.
